Automatic Trash Can
Automatic Trash Cans: An Idea Whose Time is Now
I've given some thought to replacing the trash bin in the kitchen. The under the counter trash can has just gotten too messy and inconvenient, so I want to put a can where it can be easily accessed and used, even if I have my hands full at the time. An automatic trash can just seemed like an idea whose time had come at my house.
A quick check at the local stores told me that I was not alone in the automatic trash can search. The home supply stores carry them as do the local department stores and big box stores. So the real decision comes down to where to go to look at the physical product.
These handy trash cans come in a variety of sizes and materials, from smallish ones to some really huge ones, so I can put one in the kitchen but then have a cute little bullet size one for the powder room. They come in easy touch models which open if you just brush against the lid, as well as sensor models that open if you stand in front of it and trip the electric eye even if you don’t touch them. Either model would be great, but they just caught my eye, there is something about a trash can that opens for me when I'm standing there wishing it would.

Most of the models I saw were battery operated and I immediately thought of what would happen if the batteries didn’t get changed out in a timely manner. Not that I would ever forget to change batteries on the Fourth of July and Christmas, but I wondered what would happen if I did.
I found that for the most part the automatic trash cans revert to being ordinary lift it yourself lid trash cans in the event of dead batteries. This makes these wonders of the technological age even more practical to me. After all, technology that can’t be used when the power goes off is technology that isn’t really ready for the modern home.
I enjoyed the search for and will enjoy the use of this terrific modern appliance for the kitchen. I am even thinking about the usefulness of this product in other rooms in the house. Maybe I'll put a stainless steel trash can in study or the kids rooms. I love something that is durable and these are.
